Thailand Visa Information
Tourist Visa Exemption
People from many different countries visiting Thailand as a tourist for 30 days or less do not need to obtain a visa.
As per the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs website:
- According to the Interior Ministerial Announcements dated 1 October B.E. 2545 (2002), 20 December B.E. 2545 (2002), 18 October B.E. 2547 (2004) and 6 May B.E. 2548 (2005), passport holders from 40 countries and 1 special administrative region -- Hong Kong SAR -- are not required to obtain a visa when entering Thailand for tourism purposes and will be permitted to stay in the Kingdom for a period of not exceeding 30 days on each visit. Foreigners who enter the Kingdom under the Tourist Visa Exemption category may re-enter and stay in Thailand for a cumulative duration of stay of not exceeding 90 days within any 6-month period from the date of first entry.
- Please note that Tourist Visa Exemption does not apply to foreigners holding Travel Document for Aliens issued by these 40 countries.
- Foreigners entering Thailand under the Tourist Visa Exemption category must possess adequate finances for the duration of stay in Thailand (i.e., cash 10,000 Baht per person and 20,000 Baht per family).

Tourist Visa
If you intend to spend more than 30 days in Thailand on holiday, you will have to apply for a Tourist Visa before entering Thailand. You can obtain these from any Thai embassy or consulate.

Retirement Visa or Non-Immigrant Visa "O-A"
Any person aged 50 years and over who wishes to stay in Thailand can apply for a 'retirement visa'. The visa is valid for 1 year, but can be renewed yearly. Besides the restriction on age the following additional rules apply:
- working in Thailand is strictly prohibited
- passport needs to be valid for at least another 18 months when applying
- 800,000 Baht in a bank account or verifiable income of at least 65,000 Baht per month

Non-Immigrant Visa
Thai Immigration 90-day Address Reporting
Any foreigner living in Thailand must report their address to the Immigration Bureau every 90 days. The notification must be made within 7 days before or after the 90-day period expires. If you leave the country, the 90-day period starts again on the day you return.
You can report personally, through somebody else (e.g. employer, legal officer), or by registered mail.
If you do not report every 90 days, you can be fined 2,000 - 5,000 Baht.
